Collection: Ripe (Shou) Puerh

"Shou" translates to "cooked" which refers to the accelerated fermentation process that this genre of tea undergoes, similar to a composting process. The harvested leaves are piled, watered, and covered for around 45 days. The heat of the pile, along with specific beneficial bacteria transforms the raw leaves or "mao cha" into the earthy, rich, dark red-brown elixir that we love dearly. The "cooked" puerh continues to ferment at a slower pace through the natural aging process, we have a curated selection of shou puerhs representing multiple decades.

Most of the shou puerh on the market today is made using industrial scale mono-crop farming methods, which among other drawbacks, produces a low quality tea. We source our shou puerhs (as well as our other teas) as much as possible from old growth tea forests and responsibly managed gardens. The difference will be apparent in the cup, surely.

We have a shou puerh sampler pack! For those that would like to sample our "cooked" offering.
